The first match of the ICC World Test Championship series between the England cricket team and the New Zealand cricket team started earlier today at Lord’s in London. It marked the return of James Anderson and Stuart Broad to Test cricket. The veteran pacers lost their places in the squad for the series between the England cricket team and the West Indies cricket team.

However, the new team management recalled them for the home ICC World Test Championship series against the New Zealand cricket team, and the decision has proved to be a masterstroke in the first match only.

New Zealand cricket team skipper Kane Williamson won the toss and chose to bat first at Lord’s. Here’s what Williamson had to say at the toss:

“We are going to bat. Looks like a pretty good surface, the sun is out as well, so we are going to look to make use of it first up. It has been a while, so it is great to be back in whites. Ajaz, Tim, Trent and Kyle along with Colin de Grandhomme that make up the bowling attack.”

James Anderson destroyed the New Zealand top-order at Lord’s

The New Zealand cricket team got off to a disastrous start in London as they lost five wickets for 36 runs in 20 overs. Matty Potts and James Anderson wreaked havoc as the likes of Devon Conway, Tom Latham and Kane Williamson found themselves helpless.

Anderson did not concede a single run in his first four overs. He dismissed both openers Tom Latham and Will Young as his figures read 4-4-0-2 at the end of his first four overs. Fans on social media lauded the veteran pacer for his stunning spell upon his return to the longest format of the game.
