Indian cricket team’s white-ball vice-captain KL Rahul, who was supposed to make his comeback after his surgery in the T20I series against West Indies, will now have to wait till the Zimbabwe tour for his comeback.
It has been reported by ESPNcricinfo that Rahul might be out of COVID isolation in a day or two, but the medical professionals have advised the player to take an extra week off because of the after-effects of COVID and he might have to miss the whole West Indies tour altogether.
KL Rahul was training in NCA after his surgery during which he tested positive for COVID and couldn’t travel with the rest of the Indian T20I players to the West Indies. Earlier, it was speculated that he might be declared fit in time for the last couple of T20 internationals against West Indies, but that doesn’t seem to be the case anymore.

Since Rahul has been out of match practice for quite a long, it’s almost certain that BCCI would want him to travel to Zimbabwe for the 3-match ODI series, even though most of the other first-choice ODI players are expected to be rested for the tour.
The Indian captain Rohit Sharma is unlikely to travel to Zimbabwe for the ODI series and will be taking a break before the Asia Cup. In that scenario, KL Rahul might be leading the Indian team on the tour of Zimbabwe.

Rahul is one of India’s first-choice players in both formats of white ball cricket and BCCI doesn’t just want him to be fit as soon as possible, they also want him to have some match practice before the Asia Cup and T20 World Cup, which are two of the big tournaments coming up later this year.
But, first surgery because of a groin injury and then COVID side effects have kept Rahul out of the tours of both England and West Indies.
