Rob Conway is a former WWE World Tag Team Champion from the 2000s and he recently revealed something. He stated that he wanted to return to WWE in a new role.
Conway started with the company in 2000 and gained popularity as a member of La Résistance. The group also had ex-WWE superstars René Duprée and Sylvain Grenier. Conway was famous for his physique and and 8-pack abs.
He competed on both RAW and SmackDown and WWE released him in May 2007. He returned to WWE as a guest trainer at their Performance Center in 2018 and now performs on the independent circuit.
On the latest Café De René podcast with René Duprée, Conway talked about him possibly returning back to WWE. He said that he had once considered going back as a producer or coach but then didn’t. He said, “Yeah, I considered going back as a producer or coach but I couldn’t wrestle four nights a week anymore. And I’m used to being in my own bed every night, you know… the idea of being away from home four nights a week just, I mean, doesn’t really appeal.”
Why Rob Conway did not want to return to WWE as a performer?
Conway revealed another reason why he didn’t want to return as a performer.
He is 50 years old and feels he wouldn’t be able to connect with the young roster. His words, “The other thing too, like you might really like the guys in the locker room but when you get older, you don’t really have as much in common with them… Wikipedia says I’m 48 but I’m 50 years old. So, a lot of these guys could be my kid” (1:22:40 – 1:23:24)
After WWE, Rob Conway had an incredible run with the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA) and became their Heavyweight Champion twice. He is also a four-time NWA World Tag Team Champion. Maybe we see him back in WWE as a producer some day.
