It has been a dream run for Cheteshwar Pujara ever since he joined Sussex and the glittering stardust sprinkled further to another double century, as he rocked the English country fabric with another swashbuckling double-century.
This was the third 200 for Pujara in the colors of Sussex, as he steamrolled the bowling unit of Middlesbrough comfortably. He came out to bat at number four where Sussex teetered at 99 for the loss of 2.
Joining forces with Tom Alsop, he weathered the initial storm and then started flipping Middlesbrough’s forward surge into a cautious retreat as the balls would fly off his blade frequently, and trouble the scorekeepers.
Here is what Twitter had to say about Cheteshwar Pujara
Once Alsop fell, the support from the other end was very minimal but Pujara continued with his onslaught, leading from the front as the skipper of the side, stitching together one gorgeous stroke after the other. Danial Ibrahim chipped in with a crucial partnership, helping Pujara to extend his dominion for Sussex.
By the time he fell to Tom Helm, he already had 231 runs in his repertoire and helped Sussex amass 523 runs on the card. In this illustrious knock from Pujara, there would be 19 fours and 2 sixes that would set the perfect precedent for the wary aggression that would lay waste to the Middlesbrough bowlers.
Thanks to this wondrous knock, Pujara entered an elite club that made him the first Sussex player to score three double-hundreds in a season after almost 118 years.
He also carried his good form to the international arcade where he stitched together a crucial half-century for India in the second innings of the England Test. Pujara had started his Sussex stint with an excellent double-century against Derbyshire and backed it up with a fine century against Worcestershire and another 200 against Durham. Twitter was absolutely stunned to witness the resurgence of Cheteshwar Pujara after a lean patch that forced him out of the Indian squad when they took on Sri Lanka in February.
