Here is the reason why Ravindra Jadeja won’t be playing for India in T20 World Cup 2022

India announced their 15-member squad for T20 World Cup today which didn't feature Ravindra Jadeja's name

The Indian squad for the T20 World Cup 2022 has been announced and the name of Ravindra Jadeja doesn’t feature in it, which is a bit of a surprise because Jadeja was the premier allrounder for India along with Hardik Pandya in the lead-up to the World Cup.

The selection of Ravindra Jadeja was almost certain in the T20 World Cup squad about a month back, but recently while playing in the Asia Cup in UAE, Jadeja sustained a very serious injury while he was doing some sort of an adventure on a ski-board.

The injury was so serious that the medical team of BCCI decided Jadeja would have to go under the knife straight away and he couldn’t have continued playing for a couple of months on non-surgical treatment. Once Jadeja underwent the surgery, there was never any chance that he would recover within a few weeks to make it to the World Cup squad.

Axar Patel has been picked for T20 World Cup in the place of Ravindra Jadeja

Eventually, when the selection committee met today to pick the T20 World Cup squad, they had to pick Axar Patel on the place of Jadeja, who is a like-for-like replacement, but he isn’t quite as experienced as Jadeja. Jadeja has also played in many ICC tournaments before, so he is used to pressuring situations.

However, now that Jadeja is not there, it’s a good opportunity for Axar Patel to showcase his potential and prove that he can also be India’s man for the big games. Axar has played plenty of games in the IPL and in terms of ability, he has got enough to make a mark in the T20 World Cup if he handles the pressure well.

As far as Jadeja is concerned, his recovery is expected to take about 3 to 4 months and he might be able to make a comeback to the Indian squad for the Border-Gavaskar trophy against Australia next year.
