ICC Ranking: Who is the No.1 ODI batsman?

ODIs have taken a backseat in this era of T20 dominance. However, being one of the traditional formats, ODIs will find a context ahead of the 2023 ODI World Cup. The rankings are predominantly inclined toward the teams that have played more ODI cricket in recent months. On that note, here, we take a look at the player who is the No.1 ODI batter according to the latest ICC Ranking.

No.1 ODI batter as per the latest ICC ranking

With 892 points, Babar Azam stands at No.1 on this list. The Pakistan cricketer is pretty close to the 900 points mark, which would be considered an elite achievement by a cricketer. At the moment, in the history of the format, Sir Viv Richards’ 935 points are the best accomplishment by a batsman. It will be an interesting subplot to see if Babar can get close to that mark.

Second on the list right now is Babar’s teammate Imam-ul-Haq. In the recent games, the southpaw has performed on par with Babar. However, he has 815 points and it could be hard to get past his skipper. The South African duo of Rassie van der Dussen and Quinton de Kock take the No.3 and No.4 spots, respectively. Next up is the Indian pair of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma who stand at No.5 and No.6, respectively.

Men’s ODI chart could witness a lot of changes post the 2022 T20 World Cup

The next ODI World Cup will be in 2023. The event will take place in India. Hence, after the 2022 T20 World Cup, most teams will completely shift their focus to the 50-overs showpiece event.

With all teams consistently playing ODI cricket, we could see some changes in the rankings chart. Beating Babar Azam could be hard for any batter at the moment. However, the ranking system is dynamic and it won’t be a surprise if we witness drastic changes on the list.
