Even in T20Is, he is setting himself up for a middle-order role. Since India needs a keeper who can bat in the middle-order, there is no better choice than the experienced man. Especially on tracks in the West Indies, KL Rahul is a must for Team India.

2) Shreyas Iyer

Shreyas Iyer is one of the players unlucky not to be selected for the Afghanistan T20I series. Considering the next T20 World Cup is in the West Indies, Shreyas Iyer was needed for the side. However, he has not been selected.

At No.3 or No.4, India needed a backup. Considering he plays spin well, Shreyas Iyer was a good choice for the squad. However, the likes of Tilak Varma have made the cut ahead of him.

3) Ishan Kishan

Not long ago, Ishan Kishan was opening the batting and also operating at No.3 for India. However, he is not in the squad right now.

It appears that India needs a wicket-keeper who can bat at No.5 or No.6. Hence, Jitesh Sharma and Sanju Samson have been selected. Therefore, Ishan is somewhat unlucky to not get his chance.
