Asia Cup 2022 will start on August 27th. It is after four years that the tournament is happening. Major records are set to be broken in the upcoming event. Even the Indian captain Rohit Sharma could topple a few records. On that note, we discuss more on this as Rohit Sharma is on the verge of a very elite record in the upcoming Asia Cup 2022.
Rohit Sharma is on the brink of an elite record in Asia Cup 2022
So far, only two batters have scored more than 1000 runs in the Asia Cup history. Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara and Sanath Jayasuriya are the only two cricketers who have done it. While Sanath scored 1220 runs, Sangakkara made 1075 runs in the competition. Sachin Tendulkar and Shoaib Malik are third and fourth on the list respectively, with 971 and 907 runs.
Rohit Sharma stands at No.5 on this chart. He has been a part of the competition since 2008 and in 27 matches, he has scored 883 runs at an average of 42. Now, he has a very good chance of scoring 117 more runs and breaking into the Top 3. In fact, if he has a good tournament, there is a chance that Rohit could go past Kumar Sangakkara or even Sanath Jayasuriya.
An important tournament for the Indian skipper
The upcoming competition will be very important for Rohit Sharma. Although he has contributed with a few vital cameos recently, for a player of his stature, Rohit must score big. This will really help the likes of Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya to take on the bowling at the end. Hence, Rohit’s personal form will be very crucial for India going forward.
One of my important objectives as a skipper for Rohit is to win the 2022 T20 World Cup. An important checkpoint for that is the Asia Cup. Therefore, Rohit will want to lead his team over the line in the event.
