“Are just one change away from their best team”, Aakash Chopra reacts to South Africa losing to Netherlands in the T20 World Cup

All needed for South Africa was a win against the Netherlands to enter the semi-finals. However, they were not able to clinch the victory. Now, their T20 World Cup dreams are almost over. On that note, here, we take a look as Aakash Chopra reacts to South Africa losing to the Netherlands in the T20 World Cup.

South Africa lose to the Netherlands in the T20 World Cup

South Africa looked in great form in the Super 12 stage. Barring the match against Pakistan, the Proteas looked balanced and strong. They also defeated tournament favourites India a few days ago. Hence, the challenge against the Netherlands just looked like a formality. However, under pressure, the Proteas are not popular for their performances and that repeated on Sunday.

Chasing a score of 159, South Africa had a decent start to the chase. All their batters got to a double-digit score but none was able to carry on. In the end, under pressure, the batters played some loose shots, which resulted in their downfall. Also, from a team combination point of view, South Africa had a long tail. Wayne Parnell at No.7 was not great and this also directly led to them not being able to chase the score.

Aakash Chopra reacts to the upset

South Africa had a good squad and they will further introspect on how they can improve. Former India cricketer Aakash Chopra felt that the Proteas are only one change away from fielding their best XI. Reeza Hendricks spent his time on the bench in the T20 World Cup although he was in good form. On the other hand, despite the poor show, Temba Bavuma kept himself in the XI.

If not, for now, the management must make a bold decision of dropping Bavuma soon. With Dewald Brevis also showing good form, he can also find a place in the XI.
