Akira Tozawa picked up an upset victory over The Miz on this week’s episode of RAW, which aired live from Montreal, Quebec, Canada. It was a big achievement for the Japanese star, who had been struggling to win a single match in the last three years.
The Miz picked an opponent for himself on RAW, and although fans expected that guy to be bigger and stronger than LA Knight, The A-Lister picked Akira Tozawa. LA Knight was present ringside, and the distraction helped Tozawa pin The Miz.
Courtesy of this victory, Tozawa’s 1,344-day losing streak on RAW has come to an end. If one removes all the 24/7 championship matches that he had, Tozawa’s last win came over R-Truth during a gauntlet match on RAW back in December 2019.
It took Tozawa more than three years to record a pinfall win again. While he had recorded a few wins on Main Event and NXT, the Japanese wrestler remained winless on the Red brand despite being a part of some memorable storylines.

In fact, Tozawa also lost an intergender match against the reigning WWE Women’s World Champion, Rhea Ripley. Many fans felt that he would never win again, but the Japanese star stunned the fans with a win over a former world champion like The Miz.
What’s next for Akira Tozawa after the win on WWE RAW?
The win should give Tozawa a lot of momentum on the main roster. Although it was not a clean win, a victory over someone like The Miz should propel him to the under mid-card level, where he can have a fun non-title feud with another star.

There are many ways that the WWE management can book Tozawa going forward. Meanwhile, as far as LA Knight and The Miz are concerned, it looks like fans will witness a match between them at Payback.
