A few days ago, Virat Kohli quit his Test captaincy. This was after the defeat to South Africa. Hence, within the last few months, Virat Kohli has completely distanced himself from captaincy. After Virat Kohli quit his Test captaincy, in his tribute, Ajaz Patel compared Virat Kohli with a Kiwi legend.
Ajaz Patel compared Virat Kohli with Kiwi legend
When New Zealand toured India at the end of 2021, Ajaz Patel wrote history by becoming the third player in International cricket to take all ten wickets in an innings. The performance was at Wankhede in the city of Mumbai, where Ajaz was born. However, in the next series itself, Ajaz Patel was dropped from the Test Team. It was understandable considering the series against Bangladesh was at home.
Recently, in his tribute for Virat Kohli, Ajaz compared the Indian player’s impact with that of Brendon McCullum. Similar to Virat, Bazz had also helped New Zealand do well on the international stage. He was at the centre of a cultural shift that is helping the Kiwis even now. Hence, Ajaz brought the names of both the players in the same sentence.
Congrats to @imVkohli on your tenure as @BCCI captain, the legacy and direction you leave behind has forever changed Indian cricket. 👏🏽 Much like we saw @BLACKCAPS by @Bazmccullum

BCCI yet to name Virat Kohli’s replacement
India’s next Test assignment will be at home in February. Virat Kohli is the most successful captain that India has seen. He won 40 games from 68 encounters and helped India climb the rankings in the ICC charts. Hence, it will be a difficult task to replace him.
That said, February is not far and BCCI might have to take an action at the earliest. At the moment, the two names running around are that of Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul. The likes of Rishabh Pant, R Ashwin and Jasprit Bumrah are also reportedly in the fray. It will be an interesting decision to see who will be appointed as the next Indian Test skipper.
