The journies of CSK and KKR have been slightly different in IPL 2021. CSK has been dominant since the first phase of the competition and in the UAE, they further exerted dominance by becoming the first team to qualify for the playoffs. Although they faced a slight blip, in Qualifier 1, the MS Dhoni-led unit got back to form to enter the finals.
On the other hand, KKR was down and out after the first phase. They had got just two wins out of seven games and the UAE leg just looked like a formality before they would be eliminated. However, the team did well to reverse the tide with the introduction of players like Venkatesh Iyer. In the knockout stage, KKR has defeated strong teams like Delhi and RCB to make it to the finals.
A record which CSK can achieve if they win IPL 2021
Chennai Super Kings has won a trophy so far in 2010, 2011 and 2018. They have won one trophy in the decade 2001-2010, and two championships in the decade 2011-2020. Now, they have reached the finals of IPL 2021. Hence, if they win IPL 2021, they will have a trophy in the decade 2021-2030, as well. Therefore, the franchise will become the first team to win a trophy in three different decades.
Mumbai Indians have won five trophies, but all have come within the same decade of 2011-2020. If CSK does achieve this record, it will yet again prove to have been one of the most consistent teams in the history of the competition.
