It will be hard to digest the rubbing provided by New Zealand at home. Getting whitewashed in the Test series at home will be one of the darkest moments in Indian cricket. Surely, BCCI will be itching to do something in the next few weeks. With the BGT happening shortly, no major calls are likely to be taken. Anyway, the squad for the tournament has been announced. On that note, here, we take a look at the list of three bold decisions BCCI will be forced to take in the coming days.
1) Install a new Test Head Coach
Gautam Gambhir has been okay as the T20 Head Coach. As the ODI Head Coach, as well, he can be trusted. However, for the role of the Test Head Coach, BCCI needs to have other ideas.
India is proud to have a solid Test Team. The team needs special care and attention. Hence, BCCI must take the bold decision of a split-coaching system. This has worked for other nations such as England. Hence, Gautam Gambhir must not longer remain as the Head Coach if the performance continues in the BGT.
2) Relieve Rohit Sharma as the Test skipper
Relieving Rohit Sharma as the Test skipper is one of the bold decisions BCCI will be forced to take in the coming days. It appears that Rohit’s time as the Test skipper is numbered.
He himself has accepted that many of his decisions led to the team’s downfall. Therefore, it would be best to have Bumrah as the full-time Test skippers.
3) Move on from the seniors
It will take a lot of guts and outrage to move on from the superstar seniors. However, BCCI must note that this is a transition period and they will have to be ruthless.
Therefore, some under-performing seniors will have to be dropped. The likes of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma should maximum have the BGT to prove their credentials.
