One of the main reasons for the Punjab Kings’ failure has been their inability to trust people, be it captains or coaches. It is striking to note that they have had six Head Coaches, all of whom got just one season to apply their tactics. This is shocking for a professional side. At least, with the appointment of Ricky Ponting, they must look to avoid this inconsistency. On that note, here, we take a look at the list of three Head Coaches who just had a 1-year stint at Punjab Kings.
1) Michael Bevan – 2011
Michael Bevan came on to the side after Tom Moody’s stint. Although the team did well to finish 5th, the promise was missing and hence, the franchise had to replace Bevan.
2) Adam Gilchrist – 2012
Adam Gilchrist is one of the Head Coaches who just had a 1-year stint at Punjab Kings. He was one of the captain-coaches the side had. In a few games, Punjab showed great signs of dominance. However, that could not be sustained for long.
3) Darren Lehmann – 2013
Under him, the Deccan Chargers won the title in 2009. However, at Punjab, Lehmann was not able to a great job. Sanjay Bangar replaced him later on.
4) Virender Sehwag – 2017
The former India opener is also one of the Head Coaches who just had a 1-year stint at Punjab Kings. After retirement, he worked for a while as a Mentor. Later, he operated for one season as a Head Coach. He led the side to a 5th-place finish. However, Sehwag had to leave the franchise later.
5) Brad Hodge – 2018
He did a decent job at Gujarat Lions to get this gig. However, Punjab Kings could not have him onboard for more than one season.
6) Mike Hesson – 2019
Mike Hesson is also one of the Head Coaches who just had a 1-year stint at Punjab Kings. He was a top coach and Punjab showed some signs of promise under him. The team finished 6th and the team had to part ways with Mike. Later, at RCB, the Kiwi actually did a great job as the Director of Cricket.
