It is not always that a captain gets another chance to lead a side after stepping down as a captain earlier. However, a few players are set to be in such a situation in the upcoming T20 World Cup. On that note, here, we take a look at the list of two players who are in their second stint as captain in the 2024 T20 World Cup.
1) Babar Azam
After Pakistan’s disappointing run in the 2023 ODI World Cup, Babar Azam resigned as the captain of Pakistan in all three formats. While Shan Masood took over the duties in the five-day format, Shaheen Afridi was appointed as the captain in the T20 format. However, ahead of the 2024 T20 World Cup, there is a big change in the Pakistan setup.
Babar Azam has been re-appointed as the skipper of the Pakistan Team. It is actually a good move. Shaheen is an asset. He may not be required in all the games, especially after the return of Mohammad Amir. In this case, it may not be a good idea to have different captains in the same tournament. Babar provides solidity in this regard and it also allows Shaheen to focus on his bowling.
2) Rashid Khan
Rashid Khan is one of the players who are in their second stint as captain in the 2024 T20 World Cup. Back in 2021, Rashid Khan stepped down as the captain. This was after he was not involved in the selection of the squad for the World Cup.
However, at the moment, he is the skipper of Afghanistan. One of the best players in the T20 format, Rashid will be desperate to do well in the tournament. In the 2023 ODI World Cup, the Afghans actually did well. They will hope to replicate that performance again in the upcoming T20 World Cup in the West Indies and USA.
