Shreyas Iyer is doing a good job as a skipper of Kolkata Knight Riders. The team spent INR 12.25 Cr to sign him at the IPL 2022 Mega Auctions. A few other teams also had him on the target list. On that note, here, we take a look at four franchises which targeted Shreyas Iyer in IPL 2022 Mega Auctions before KKR signed him.

1) Royal Challengers Bengaluru

After Virat Kohli had stepped down as the skipper, RCB was looking for a captaincy candidate. Hence, it was not a surprise that they were in for Iyer.

In fact, in the initial bidding war, RCB was aggressive for Iyer. However, later, they had to bow out of the bidding and targeted other players.

2) Delhi Capitals

Delhi Capitals is one of the franchises which targeted Shreyas Iyer in IPL 2022 Mega Auctions before KKR signed him. Shreyas wanted captaincy and with Rishabh Pant the contender at DC, the Mumbai man had to be released.

Nevertheless, DC was still interested in the player. They were in for him for quite some time before they stepped out of the race.

3) Lucknow Super Giants

LSG had only KL Rahul as the lead Indian batter at that time. Hence, they targeted Shreyas Iyer in the IPL 2022 Mega Auctions.

However, seeing his price go high, naturally, LSG could not afford him and hence, did not proceed with their interest for the cricketer.

4) Gujarat Titans

GT is also one of the franchises which targeted Shreyas Iyer in IPL 2022 Mega Auctions before KKR signed him. With Shubman Gill as the only Indian batter, GT was also needing some signings for this department.

In fact, they were in the race till the end but it was KKR that eventually signed the cricketer. Had Iyer been in Gujarat Titans, a few of GT’s current middle-order issues would have been resolved.
