Adam Gilchrist apologizes for wrongly mentioning about the death of Navdeep Saini’s father

Former Australian skipper turned commentator Adam Gilchrist wrongly mentioned about the death of Navdeep Saini’s father. India have finally begun their international cricket after a long break due to the COVID-19 pandemic with the first ODI against Australia which is being played at the Sydney Cricket Ground. While commentating, Adam Gilchrist instead of talking about the passing away of Mohammad Siraj’s father, made a mistake by mentioning about the passing away of Navdeep Saini’s father.

Mohammed Siraj got his maiden call-up to the Indian squad for the longest format against Australia after some impressive performances in domestic cricket. But unfortunately, his father passed away and he took a brave decision of not going back to perform his last rites. This was because it was his father’s dream that he should perform well for India. Thus he would try his best if he possibly makes his Test debut for India, which is likely to happen as Ishant Sharma has been ruled out of the Australian tour.

Adam Gilchrist apologizes for his goof up

Fans on Twitter were immediately ready to remind Adam Gilchrist of his mistake and corrected him. Adam Gilchrist acknowledged that and apologized almost immediately for his mistake. Yes, I realize I was mistaken in my mention. Huge apologies for my error, to both @navdeepsaini96 and Mohammed Siraj,” the tweet read.

With Ishant Sharma ruled out of the Australian tour as he does not have the fitness level to sustain for the longest format, it will be interesting to see if India choose Umesh Yadav as the third seamer or gives Mohammad SIraj his maiden Test cap for India. Here are some of the other tweets that tried to remind Adam Gilchrist of his mistake.
