WrestleMania XL witnessed the culmination of one of the most enthralling narratives in the history of WWE as Cody Rhodes finished his story, defying all odds and decimating the era of Roman Reigns to become the new Undisputed WWE Universal Champion and kicking off his own era.
However, as history has proven, every now and then, a new face emerges in the future to dethrone the current flagship star of the company, as also seen in the case of Roman Reigns and Cody Rhodes. So here are 4 possible opponents who can crumble Cody Rhodes’ Kingdom and claim the title from him:
1. Randy Orton can beat Cody Rhodes
Cody Rhodes might have dethroned one of the most dominant champions in Roman Reigns, but his championship reign could very well end at the hands of the man who took him under his wing in his early days, Randy Orton. The former Legacy faction members could put on one of the most exciting in-ring encounters of all time with The Viper’s vicious and status as Rhodes’ early mentor proving too much for The American Nightmare and his title reign, to end at the hands of Randy Orton.
2. Seth Rollins can beat Cody Rhodes
Seth Rollins may have been Cody Rhodes’ Shield on the road to WrestleMania XL. But it is no secret that there was a huge amount of bad blood between both main event stars in the past. With Cody becoming the new Undisputed Champion and Rollins losing his own title at WrestleMania, The Visionary’s momentum would be at an all-time high. Working with Rhodes would have exposed his weakness to Rollins, who could take advantage to make him vulnerable and snatch the WWE championship from the new kingdom ruler.
3. The Rock
The Rock’s family did crumble at the hands of Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania XL, but not him. As he reminded everyone on the RAW after WrestleMania, he did pin Rhodes in the middle of the ring on Night 1. Moreover, while he has gone on hiatus now, he did leave the door open for a future showdown with him. Adding that to his Final Boss persona, it could be The Rock who steps up for his family and dethrones Cody Rhodes to bring the Undisputed WWE Title back to The Bloodline.
4. Roman Reigns
Roman Reigns’ 1300+ day reign as champion came to its conclusion at the hands of Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania XL. The Tribal Chief posted a video hinting towards rebuilding himself once again the following day. The day could come in the later months when he is ready and back in WWE to avenge a true nightmare in his career.
With both men tied for 1-1 in one-on-one matches, the rubber match could see The Head of the Table smash Rhodes’ reign to its end and once again reestablish the Island of Relevancy over WWE as the champion.
