WWE WrestleMania XL will take place in three weeks. It is the biggest WWE premium live event of the year, with Philadelphia’s Lincoln Financial Field set to host the two-night event on April 6 and 7.
Roman Reigns vs. Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship will main event this year’s WrestleMania. The company has also announced five other title matches for the Showcase of Immortals in 2024.
Seth Rollins will put his World Heavyweight Championship on the line against Drew McIntyre, while Rollins’ wife Becky Lynch will try to win the Women’s World Championship from Rhea Ripley.
IYO Sky will defend her WWE Women’s title against Bayley. Also, the Judgment Day will participate in a six-team ladder match, defending their Undisputed tag titles. Gunther vs Sami Zayn for the Intercontinental Championship is another match on the show.
Apart from the aforementioned matches, WWE had planned the following two championship bouts for WrestleMania XL. However, due to unforeseen circumstances, the creative team had to cancel the bouts. Here’s a look at the those two title matches.
1. Roman Reigns vs The Rock was the original main event of WWE WrestleMania XL
After a long, long wait, WWE fans were finally going to get the dream match between Roman Reigns and The Rock. However, WWE let Cody Rhodes win the Royal Rumble and then point towards Reigns to end the show.
Thus, when Cody let Rock take his place at WrestleMania, fans were furious and demanded a change. Now, Roman Reigns will team up with The Rock to take on Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins in the main event of night 1.
2. Gunther vs Brock Lesnar
Gunther will put his title on the line against Sami Zayn at WrestleMania. However, the original plan was a match between the Ring General and the Beast Incarnate, Brock Lesnar. Due to the allegations against Lesnar, Gunther’s opponent was changed to Sami.
