2 teams that bid for Daryl Mitchell in IPL 2024 Auctions but could not sign him

Chennai Super Kings hired Daryl Mitchell for around INR 14 Crores in IPL 2024 Auctions. It is a top investment because Daryl Mitchell would strengthen the batting unit of CSK at No.5. He is also in form and that is another advantage for the franchise. It was not a surprise that there were a few other teams that were interested in his services. On that note, here, we take a look at two teams that bid for Daryl Mitchell in IPL 2024 Auctions but could not sign him.

1) Punjab Kings

Punjab Kings already had a settled middle order, especially when it came to their overseas players. Liam Livingstone was the only foreign middle-order batter and someone like Sam Curran could have been promoted up the order. However, it needs to be noted that Livingstone is not in great for. He has fitness issues, as well.

Therefore, Punjab Kings needed a more reliable option to form the fulcrum of the middle order. Hence, they were behind Daryl Mitchell. Although they had decent funds, they did not go all the way for him. This was a surprise because he would have been a good fit.

2) Delhi Capitals

Delhi Capitals is one of the teams that bid for Daryl Mitchell in IPL 2024 Auctions but could not sign him. After releasing Rovman Powell, Delhi Capitals needed a player for No.5 or No.6. Rishabh Pant would take the No.4 slot but someone experienced was needed in the middle order.

There would have been no better option than Daryl Mitchell for DC. Hence, they stayed on the hunt for a long time. However, CSK was desperate to land the Kiwi and hence, DC could not hire the talented cricketer. Nevertheless, DC got Harry Brook and Tristan Stubbs as the options for the middle order. Both these players are young, talented and would be a good acquisitin for the future.
