Captaincy is a huge task in the Indian Premier League. While there are many cricketing decisions to take, over a long tournament, there could be other factors for the captains to deal with. On one side, a captain must work on the tactics of the side and in a league like the IPL, the skipper should also represent the brand of the franchise. On that note, here, we take a look at the list of three lowest paid captains for IPL 2024.
1) Aiden Markram (Sunrisers Hyderabad) – INR 2.6 Cr
Aiden Markram went for a steal price to Sunrisers Hyderabad at the IPL 2022 Auctions. After he won the SA20 with Sunrisers Eastern Cape, he was the obvious choice to replace Kane Williamson as the captain of SRH.
While he is the lowest-earning captain now, SRH could make a drastic change to appoint the highest-paid skipper in the history of IPL. Pat Cummins has a chance of leading SRH and if that happens, Markram will lose his spot here.
2) Faf du Plessis (Royal Challengers Bangalore) – INR 7 Cr
Faf du Plessis is one of the lowest paid captains for IPL 2024. It was clear that RCB was going behind Faf to make him the skipper. They got their man at INR 7 Cr.
For a franchise that includes Virat Kohli and Glenn Maxwell, an able and experienced leader was needed. Faf has done that job and he has also delivered with the bat. Hence, it was a good buy by RCB.
3) Shubman Gill (Gujarat Titans) – INR 8 Cr
With Hardik Pandya moving out, Shubman Gill has taken over the reins at GT. Before the IPL 2022 Mega-Auction, he was signed for INR 8 Cr by the Titans.
It is surprising that he is one of the lowest-paid captains. That said, in the coming years, he will surely be one of the highest-paid players in the IPL.
