As per reports, the Afghanistan Cricket Board will not give an NOC to Naveen-ul-Haq for participation in IPL 2024. This was because Naveen reportedly refused to sign a central contract. Hence, it is a big blow for the Lucknow Super Giants who would have liked to have the player. On that note, here, we take a look at the list of three players LSG can sign as the replacement for Naveen-ul-Haq for IPL 2024.
1) Tim Southee
It needs to be noted that barring David Willey, LSG does not have an experienced new-ball bowler. Shivam Mavi and Mohsin Khan are inexperienced in this regard. Hence, a veteran like Tim Southee could help the franchise balance the bowling attack.
Also, Southee is someone who can work his way with slower deliveries and cutters. Hence, he can be of use at the EKANA wicket in Lucknow.
2) Josh Hazlewood
Josh Hazlewood is one of the players LSG can sign as the replacement for Naveen-ul-Haq for IPL 2024. Depending on his availability, LSG can take a bet on Josh Hazlewood.
While it would help them in the final stages, he can be retained before the next season and that would be a big bonus for them. He would come at a cheap price. LSG’s bowling attack will improve for the coming seasons if that happens.
3) Matt Henry
Matt Henry is an underrated bowler at the moment. If he is fit, LSG can try to hire him. While he is known for his exploits in ODIs and Tests, he is yet to find his feet in T20s.
Nevertheless, as a backup option to Mark Wood, Matt Henry will be perfect. He is someone who can open the bowling and also operate in the middle overs. Matt Henry can be reliable on the slowish wicket in Lucknow. Hence, LSG could sign the player.
