Rajasthan Royals lost Lasith Maling to Mumbai Indians as the bowling coach. Having set up a good and efficient bowling unit in RR, Malinga would want to repeat the same at MI. For that to happen, he might even ask the management to target a few members from Rajasthan Royals. On that note, here, we take a look at three Rajasthan Royals bowlers whom Lasith Malinga might target for Mumbai Indians in the trade window.
1) Adam Zampa
Adam Zampa is an elite spinner. However, at RR, with R Ashwin and Yuzvendra Chahal in the team, Zampa might not get a lot of chances.
At MI, though, there is a need for a leader of the spin attack. Piyush Chawla and Kumar Kartikeya cannot be trusted with this right now. Hence, a player like Zampa would be suitable for the franchise.
2) Sandeep Sharma
Sandeep Sharma is one of the Rajasthan Royals bowlers whom Lasith Malinga might target for Mumbai Indians in the trade window. The veteran came in as the replacement for Prasidh Krishna in IPL 2023.
However, if Prasidh returns, RR might not be able to offer a lot of chances to Sandeep. At MI, though, a good partner for Jasprit Bumrah might still be needed. Mumbai anyways needs a solid domestic pacer and considering Sandeep is a bank with the new ball, they can go for him.
3) Obed McCoy
Trent Boult’s presence did not give Obed McCoy a lot of chances in IPL 2023. It might remain the same next year, as well. On the other hand, MI has a different problem in the bowling department.
They have a lot of one-dimensional pacers barring the likes of Jasprit Bumrah. They might need a pacer with a lot of variations, especially from the back of the ball. McCoy fits the bill in this case. He also has sufficient experience and hence, finds himself on this list.
