Moeen Ali, who has been playing only white ball cricket for England for past sometime and focuses mainly on franchise leagues, is now considering coming out of his test retirement and playing for England in the upcoming Ashes series.
Earlier England were all set to play Jack Leach as their specialist spinner in the Ashes series, but the southpaw injured himself in the recent test match against Ireland and now suddenly England team management finds itself in a position where they don’t have a proven specialist spinner in sight.
Moeen Ali has emerged as a legimitate option in that kind of a scenario as he has played many test matches for England as a specialist spinner in the past and has still got it what it takes to make a difference at the highest level with the ball.
When Brendon McCullum had taken over as the test match coach of England, he had enquired Moeen about his test retirement back then as well and Moeen had said that he was open to the idea of coming out of test retirement.
But then England went with the inexperienced spinners Rehan Ahmed and Will Jacks on the Pakistan tour and Moeen stuck to white ball cricket. However, given the gravity of the Ashes series, England is a bit reluctant to go with inexperienced spinners.

If Moeen Ali comes out of his test retirement, it won’t just benefit England with an experienced spin bowling option, but he can also play the aggressive brand of cricket with the bat that England are currently endorsing. With Moeen at no. 8, there will be incredible depth in England’s batting, which is already very, very strong going into the Ashes series.
The confirmation regarding Moeen’s availablity for the Ashes series is still awaited, but it might come from the England Cricket Board (ECB) soon.
