It’s hard to imagine a player, who has not even played at the international level yet, creating world records in the game of cricket, but Narayan Jagadeesan managed to create two world records earlier today despite being an uncapped Indian cricketer.

When Narayan Jagadeesan went out to bat this morning in Tamil Nadu’s group game against Arunachal Pradesh, he already had four hundred to his name in the Vijay Hazare trophy this season, and some people were thinking that he might be due for a failure. But rather than a failure, the wicketkeeper-batsman ended up creating world records.

Here are the 2 world records that Narayan Jagadeesan created today –

Five consecutive List A hundred

There were three batsmen before Jagadeesan who had got four consecutive hundreds to their name in List A cricket in the past, but nobody had managed to cross the mark of 4. Kumar Sangakkara, Alviro Peterson, and Devdutt Padikkal were part of this elite club and while Sangakkara had scored 4 back to back List A hundred at the international level, that is in ODI cricket, Peterson and Padikkal had done it in domestic cricket.

Jaggi went past all three of them today and scored his 5th consecutive hundred in List A cricket at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

Highest List A individual score in history

Before Jagadeesan, the record of the highest ever individual List A score was held by the England batsman Alistair Brown, who had scored 268 runs while playing for Surrey against Glamorgan 20 years back in 2002. For India, that record was held by Rohit Sharma who had scored 264 runs in an international game against Sri Lanka in 2014.

But, Jagadeesan went past both Brown and Rohit today and he did that in far lesser no. of balls. While Brown had faced 160 deliveries to score his 268, Rohit had scored his 264 off 173 balls,a it was an international game in case of Rohit. Jagadeesan scored 277 runs off just 141 balls against Arunachal with 25 fours and 15 sixes.

Abhishek

I write a bit on cricket and I am more interested in technical and tactical side of the game, rather than bravado.
