The Australian allrounder Glenn Maxwell has revealed that he was expecting to feature in one of the two test matches in the recent test series in Sri Lanka and was absolutely “shattered” when he was conveyed by the team management that he wouldn’t be a part of the playing XI.
Ahead of the second test match against Sri Lanka in Galle, the Australian captain Pat Cummins had hinted that Glenn Maxwell might be in the selection frame at the expense of a fast bowler, but Cummins eventually decided to go with the same winning combination of the first test.
The Australian XI of the first test, however, couldn’t keep the winning streak going, as they lost the second test by an innings and with that, also lost the opportunity of winning two back-to-back test series in the subcontinent, after having beaten Pakistan by 1-0 in their own backyard.

Glenn Maxwell provides Australia an extra spin option and batting depth in subcontinent conditions
Although Glenn Maxwell is considered a white ball specialist in the Australian
Maxwell is a quickish finger spinner and although he isn’t quite a specialist spinner, he can still prove to be more than a handful if the surface offers turn and bounce, which most of the subcontinent surfaces offer. Maxwell playing for an extra fast bowler and batting at no. 8 gives Australia a lot of batting depth as well.
The allrounder was recently speaking in an interview with ESPNcricinfo where he said that he has strong aspirations to wear the baggy green and feature for Australia again in the upcoming Border-Gavaskar trophy in India next year.
The Border-Gavaskar trophy will be very important for both India and Australia from the point of view of qualifying for the World Test Championship (WTC) final.
