In this article, we take a look at Jay Shah reveals BCCI’s plan for utilizing the revenue from IPL after the media rights auction.

IPL is now the second most valued sporting league

While IPL had toppled many records in the previous cycle itself, the stocks have risen for the next cycle. While the TV rights went to Star India for INR 23,575 crores, Viacom 18 has landed the digital rights for INR 23,758 crores. Including the package for overseas rights, BCCI has generated an overall value of INR 48,390 in the last three days.

IPL is now the second-most valued league from a per-game perspective. Cricket was seen as a subcontinent following-heavy sport in the past. However, thanks to IPL, the landscape has changed now.

Jay Shah divulges BCCI’s plan for making use of revenue from IPL after the media rights auction

Honorary Secretary of BCCI, Jay Shah, announced the results from the auction and also revealed details on how BCCI would spend the revenue coming in from the Indian Premier League. Here is what he had to say:

Indian cricket has been dominant in the last few years but there is scope for improvement in multiple areas. While the grassroots can be made stronger, women’s cricket also needs investment for a better output. Some of the stadiums across the country need to be improved and the cricket associations of the less-popular cricketing states have to be bettered. Jay Shah touched on these aspects and others. It now needs to be seen how the BCCI would put this into action.
