Former Indian selector Saba Karim has opined that the BCCI must consider making Irfan Pathan the head of pace bowling scout in India. The reason why Karim wants BCCI to make that move is that Irfan played a massive role in the rise of Umran Malik.
Many members of the cricket universe became fans of Umran Malik during the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League. He was one of the top wicket-takers during the league round. A unique record that Umran created was winning the Swiggy Fastest Delivery of the Match award in all the 14 league games that he played for the SunRisers Hyderbad.
Not just that, Malik bagged the maiden five-wicket haul of his Indian Premier League career, that too against the tabletoppers Gujarat Titans. Malik was adjudged the Man of the Match in that game even though his team SunRisers Hyderabad lost the match against the Ahmedabad-based franchise.
Irfan Pathan has been associated with the cricket association in Jammu and Kashmir. He has unearthed a few talents in recent years, and one of them is Umran Malik. Here’s what Saba Karim wrote on Twitter:
“Irfan Pathan had a big role to play in the emergence of Umran Malik. He has an eye to spot rare talent. Strongly feel that BCCI should utilise his expertise and make him Head, Pace Bowler Scout.”
Irfan Pathan also gave a reply to Saba Karim after his suggestion
Many cricket fans would know that Irfan Pathan is now working as a cricket expert for Star Sports in their IPL 2022 coverage. He is a main member of the Hindi commentary panel. Replying to Saba Karim on Twitter after his latest tweet, Irfan Pathan wrote:
“Thank you Saba bhai for your kind words.”
