“Shane Bond of this generation,” Twitter reacts in disappointment as Jofra Archer gets ruled out of 2022 English summer due to stress fracture

Jofra Archer has not played any international cricket for England for almost 12 months

The England speedster Jofra Archer, who played a key role in England winning their first-ever World Cup in 2019, has been ruled out for one more season due to injury. Jofra was already out of the game for almost 12 months, as he last played international cricket against India in a T20 game last year.

The injury that is going to keep Jofra Archer on the sidelines for the upcoming English summer is different from the one that kept him out last summer. He has been reported to have suffered a stress fracture in his lower back and his old elbow injury has not resurfaced.

It’s quite surprising though that Jofra has suffered the stress fracture because he hasn’t bowled a lot in the last year. He has bowled a little bit in the nets and has played one or two second XI games in the county circuit. To suffer a stress fracture without a lot of overs under the belt is slightly surprising, but that’s what ECB’s official statement says.

Jofra Archer hadn’t participated in the last T20 World Cup either

Jofra Archer won’t take any part in any of the England home games this summer, but his participation in the T20 World Cup in Australia remains doubtful as well now. He had not participated in the last T20 World Cup in UAE either and it had cost England big time because they struggled in the death overs with their fast bowling.

Now if Jofra misses another T20 World Cup, it will be a body blow for England which still doesn’t have a reliable fast bowler who can bowl consistently well in the death.

The England fans were obviously devastated as the news broke through that Jofra had been ruled out for another English summer, but the cricket fans, in general, were devastated as well, as everyone wants to see Jofra back playing again.

Abhishek

I write a bit on cricket and I am more interested in technical and tactical side of the game, rather than bravado.
