4 Players India might try for the finisher role in 2022 T20 World Cup

Team India will want a good finisher to be a part of the XI at the 2022 T20 World Cup. Ever since MS Dhoni retired, India is struggling in this aspect. However, considering the fact that role-based clarity is helping players improve their skills, the management should focus on the finisher’s role in the XI. At the moment, there are multiple contenders for this spot. In this article, we take a look at four players India might try for the finisher role in the 2022 T20 World Cup.

1) Hardik Pandya

For the last few years, it is Hardik Pandya who has been designated for the role in Team India. However, due to injuries, Hardik has not played much and his form was also not great. That said, in the ongoing edition of IPL, Hardik has proved that he is back to form.

While he has been playing up the order for Gujarat Titans, he will be expected to operate at No.5 or No.6 for Team India. Hardik is one player who is good against both spin and pace. He has developed his game in the middle-overs and at the death, he has anyways been good. Since he can also provide a few overs with the ball, Hardik will be the first option for this role.

2) Suryakumar Yadav

Suryakumar Yadav is one of the players India might try for the finisher role in the 2022 T20 World Cup. Although SKY is better suited to the top-order, the slots are already filled there and hence, he has to bat lower. In recent games for India, the Mumbai man has done that job. For Mumbai Indians, too, in the first few games, he played away from his regular No.3 role.

Suryakumar Yadav is in top form at the moment. It will be unwise for the management to not make use of it. Moreover, SKY has developed his game against most types of bowling and this will help him. In Australia, the boundaries are longer and SKY’s range hitting will be of good use. Therefore, he is likely to partner with Hardik for the finisher’s role at the event.

3) Dinesh Karthik

Dinesh Karthik is one of the latest entrants to this list. He has been in terrific form in IPL 2022, scoring over 200 runs at a strike rate close to 190 for Royal Challengers Bangalore so far. DK is exceptional against pace and he has shots to play all across the park.

If India needs a player for the very specific role of finishing games, DK should be one of the top contenders. He anyways has the experience and will also be a reserve wicket-keeper for the squad. The current form is also a factor and hence, he can be tried out.

4) Rahul Tewatia

Rahul Tewatia is also one of the players India might try for the finisher role in the 2022 T20 World Cup. The cricketer has won games for Gujarat Titans from almost improbable situations. He has done it consistently and so far, has scored 179 runs at a strike rate of above 160.

Apart from the skillset, Rahul Tewatia possesses the mental strength to do the unthinkable in a cricket game. This attitude will add terrific depth to the character of the squad. Although not a reliable option, the Haryana cricketer also provides a few overs of spin. This makes him a multi-dimensional cricketer for the team.
