Krunal Pandya is a player who often goes under the radar and doesn’t get talked about a lot, but his contributions with the ball for his new IPL team Lucknow Supergiants, not just in terms of his economy rate, but in terms of his wicket taking as well, have been immense.
Krunal, after putting on a match winning performance with the ball against Punjab Kings yesterday, opened up on his preparations ahead of the IPL and revealed that the result that he is getting right now is because of the process he had put in place way before the IPL.
According to Krunal Pandya, 7-8 months before the IPL, he had started making some changes to his bowling and he was doing that under the supervision of Rahul Sanghvi. What he was basically trying was to increase the height of his release point because he thought it could help him outfox the batsmen.
Krunal Pandya is not a big turner of the ball like conventional left arm spinners
Krunal Pandya, like some other conventional left arm spinners, is not a big turner of the ball, but his biggest strength has been the fact that he is good at varying his pace and that’s why it is not easy for the batsmen to line him up.
Now, by his own revelation, Krunal has added something more to his bowling which is a higher release point. And, the amount of effort that he put in for 7-8 months to make sure he gets a good hold on his higher release point is finally paying him off in the IPL.
Krunal insisted yesterday that it’s not just with the ball, but he wants to contribute for LSG with the bat as well, as batting is something which is very close to his heart.
At LSG, Krunal is now getting to bat at no. 4 which means he is getting ample time. So, going forward, he would like to make some match defining contributions with the bat too, as he is making with the ball.
