The 23rd match of the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League is underway at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune. The Mumbai Indians are battling the Punjab Kings, where Baby AB Dewald Brevis has stolen the show with his excellent hitting against seasoned campaigner Rahul Chahar.
Mumbai Indians won the toss and decided to bowl first in Pune. The Punjab Kings got off to a flier thanks to a 97-run opening partnership from Mayank Agarwal and Shikhar Dhawan. After Mayank’s dismissal, the innings slowed down a little bit as Jonny Bairstow failed to get going.
Even the dangerous Liam Livingstone got out after four deliveries as it looked like the Mumbai Indians would pull things back. However, the duo of Shahrukh Khan and Jitesh Sharma provided a good finish to the innings. PBKS finished with 198/5 in their 20 overs.
Jasprit Bumrah, Jaydev Unadkat and Murugan Ashwin scalped one wicket each, while uncapped pacer Basil Thampi emerged as the pick of the bowlers with two wickets to his name.
Mumbai Indians started the run-chase decently with Rohit Sharma attacking the Punjab Kings bowlers. However, the partnership between Sharma and Ishan Kishan did not last long. Both openers were back in the pavilion before the powerplay ended.
Youngsters Tilak Verma and Dewald Brevis had the responsibility to save from Mumbai Indians from a collapse. Both batters stabilized the innings before switching gears at the right time.
