Sunrisers Hyderabad was handed a massive loss of 61 runs in their first game of IPL 2022 by Rajasthan Royals. Chasing a stiff total of 211, SRH could manage just 149 runs at the end. Now, adding salt to the wounds, SRH’s skipper Kane Williamson has been fined for maintaining a slow over-rate in the game. Incidentally, he is not the first captain to receive a fine this season. In this article, we take a look as Kane Williamson gets fined for slow over rate in IPL 2022.
Kane Williamson gets fined for slow over rate in IPL 2022
Winning the toss, SRH put Rajasthan Royals to bat first. Considering all the games so far were won by the chasing team, SRH had a good chance to start their season on a good note. However, barring the first few deliveries, nothing much went their way in the first innings.
While Yashasvi Jaiswal and Jos Buttler gave a good start to RR, the middle-overs received a boost from Sanju Samson (55 of 27) and Devdutt Padikkal (41 of 29). Shimron Hetmyer helped RR finish on a high at 210-6. With the bat, SRH lost Kane Williamson quickly and then there was a collapse for the franchise. Aiden Markram and Washington Sundar did well but that was not enough.
In the first innings, Kane was seen pushing his bowlers to finish their overs soon. However, they were under the pump due to the onslaught by RR batters and hence, the slow over-rate was inevitable. Even Rohit Sharma was fined on Sunday for the same offence against Delhi Capitals.

SRH needs to gain momentum at the earliest
The Hyderabad-based outfit must start to rework its strategy at the earliest. While the playing XI did seem okay, it will be down to the approach of the players as the season progresses. There were not many positives for the team but Washington Sundar’s batting and Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s bowling will keep the franchise in a relatively happy space regarding the two players.
