Many fans would remember that Rahul made his Test captaincy debut earlier this year during the ICC World Test Championship series against the South African cricket team. He got an opportunity to lead India because both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were unavailable.
Recalling the day when Virat Kohli informed him about the news of his captaincy debut, KL Rahul said during a chat on the Red Bull Cricket Room hosted by Clubhouse:
“The morning of the game, Virat (Kohli) came to me in the bus and said, ‘My back is not feeling great, you might have to captain the team.”
Rahul admitted that since he was the vice-captain, he was slowly adopting to the leadership role, but he did not expect to play the captain’s role so soon. Unfortunately, Rahul lost his maiden Test as the Indian cricket team captain.
