Team India have a hectic schedule ahead, as always. The Indian players are now prepping up to play for their respective franchises in the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League. After that, they will play 18 T20 international matches and then participate in the ICC T20 World Cup 2022.
The Indian cricket team could not impress much in the ICC T20 World Cup last year. They played five matches and registered three big wins but lost the two crucial games against the New Zealand cricket team and the Pakistan team. The two losses led to an early exit from the mega event.
To ensure that the players have enough match practice ahead of IPL 2022, the Indian team will play 18 matches in the shortest format of the game. Most importantly, the selectors and the team management will look to select around 18-20 players who play these games. From that group, they can probably finalize the squad of 15.
The ICC T20 World Cup will happen in Australia later this year in October and November. Before that, the Indian cricket team will play five matches in a home T20I series against the South African cricket team in June.
Soon after the 5-match T20I series, the Indian cricket team will board a flight to England. In England, Team India will play one Test, three ODIs and three T20I matches.
Team India to play against Ireland, West Indies and Asian neighbors
The Rohit Sharma-led outfit is also scheduled to battle the Ireland cricket team in two T20I matches and then take on the West Indies in a 3-match T20I series. The details for the Zimbabwe tour have not been confirmed yet, but the Asia Cup details have been confirmed.
Asia Cup will happen in the T20 format with India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Afghanistan and one qualifying nation participating. The tournament will happen in Sri Lanka.
