Pacer S Sreesanth announced his retirement from Indian domestic cricket recently. Although he has found himself at the centre of many controversies, the Kerala cricketer can still retire with his head held high. At one point, he was a prominent part of the Indian pace attack. He won both the 2007 T20 World Cup and then the 50-over World Cup in 2011. With Sreesanth’s retirement, not many active cricketers are left from the squad that won the trophy back in 2011. 1) Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli is one of the players who are yet to retire from the 15-member Indian squad that won the 2011 World Cup. When he started out, Virat had an instant impact and hence, he never allowed the selectors to look past him. Despite the presence of relatively experienced cricketers such as Suresh Raina in the team, Virat got the first preference. Including a 100* in the first encounter, Virat made 282 runs at an average of 35 in the tournament. The player is very much active in the game and is part of all the formats for Team India.

2) R Ashwin

R Ashwin was another off-spinner in the squad apart from Harbhajan Singh. The Tamil Nadu man played only two games in the competition. In both encounters, Ashwin picked two wickets. He was especially useful against Australia, as he took the important scalps of Ricky Ponting and Shane Watson. At the moment, Ashwin is also part of Team India in all formats. He recently earned a comeback in the limited-overs squads. However, considering his age, it needs to be seen if the management will overwork the in-form Test cricketer.

3) Piyush Chawla

Piyush Chawla was part of the squads that won the 2007 T20 World Cup and the 2011 50-over World Cup. In the latter event, Piyush played three games and returned with four wickets. That said, in recent years, Piyush has not been in great form. In the IPL 2022 Mega-Auctions, the leg-spinner did not find a buyer. Hence, after a long time, he will not feature in the event. Unless he does well again in domestic cricket, a return to IPL is very unlikely.
