3 Big players who might go unsold in the IPL mega auction

This is after a gap of 4 years that an IPL mega auction is being conducted again

While the IPL mega auction gives the players the opportunities to fetch huge deals, it also creates scenarios where a lot of reputed names go unsold because the teams can only buy so many players. There have been many reputed players in the past who have gone unsold in IPL auctions and it can happen again in the upcoming IPL mega auction as well.

Here are the 3 big players who might go unsold in the IPL mega auction of 2022 –

Suresh Raina

Suresh Raina has probably been the greatest IPL batsman of all time. The left-hander has been one of the main reasons why CSK has been such a stable and successful team over the years, but he seems to be in the twilight of his career now and was dropped for the playoffs of the last season as well.

Raina was not one of the 4 players whom CSK retained ahead of this year’s mega auction and it’s after a long time that the southpaw is back in the auction again. But, he doesn’t seem to be on the radar of a lot of franchises. CSK might bid for him for what he has done for the franchise for a long time, but if they don’t bid, Raina might go unsold.

Eoin Morgan

Eoin Morgan was an inspirational captain for KKR last season, but he struggled big time with the bat. His form was such that if he was not a guaranteed pick in the XI because of his leadership position, he might actually have been dropped in the middle of the tournament. It’s just that his captaincy was so good that KKR persisted with him, however he was released ahead of the mega auction.

Now Morgan will be judged in the mega auction for his batting and recent form with the bat and his recent form is probably not encouraging enough for a lot of franchises to bid for him. He might be another big name to miss out in the mega auction.

Aaron Finch

Finch might sound like a surprising name in this list because he is a devastating T20 batsman and only recently captained Australia to a T20 World Cup triumph. But, his batting form has been indifferent for a long time. The last time Finch played in the IPL, it was in 2020 for RCB and he was inconsistent right through the season.

Although there are two new teams in the auction this time around, there are a lot of overseas openers to pick from as well. It’s very much possible that Finch goes without a bid in the auction, just because of his indifferent form in the last couple of years.

I write a bit on cricket and I am more interested in technical and tactical side of the game, rather than bravado.
