The mega-auctions for IPL 2022 will happen soon. Before that, the retentions and draft process has to be completed. Meanwhile, R Ashwin posted a video on his YouTube channel in which he discussed the possible retentions by each franchise. He also spoke about Dinesh Karthik. R Ashwin predicted the one team that is likely to target wicket-keeper Dinesh Karthik at IPL 2022 auctions.
Franchises likely to announce retentions by end of November
November end is set to be the deadline for the existing franchises to announce their list of retentions. Each team can keep hold of four cricketers, with a maximum of only two foreigners allowed. Uncapped cricketers can be retained at INR 4 crores.
Since there is no RTM card, teams could struggle to buy back the core of their squads. Hence, retention has to be planned wisely by the franchises.
One team that may go hard for Dinesh Karthik at IPL 2022 auctions
Dinesh Karthik is unlikely to be retained by Kolkata Knight Riders because there are other options in the franchise. R Ashwin felt that since Punjab Kings went hard for DK in the IPL 2018 mega-auctions, they are likely to be back for him at the upcoming bidding event.
There are a few reports that KL Rahul might leave Punjab Kings. In that case, the franchise needs a wicket-keeper and a captain. Dinesh Karthik provides both and can also be a good player in the middle-order. Hence, Ashwin felt that PBKS might target the Tamil Nadu man again. Talking about his future, R Ashwin felt that he may not be retained by Delhi Capitals. He also felt that even Shreyas Iyer might not be retained by the franchise.
Meanwhile, R Ashwin is prepping up to take part in the Test series against New Zealand. Dinesh Karthik is recovering from an injury and will get back to the field soon.
