The mega-auctions for IPL 2022 is likely to happen in December this year or in January next year. Before that, the retentions and the draft have to be completed. It is said that by the end of November, the existing teams will announce the list of retained cricketers. In this article, we talk about R Ashwin’s latest video, in which he said that Shreyas Iyer might not be retained by Delhi Capitals.
IPL 2022 retentions to be likely to be confirmed by end of November
As per reports, teams can retain a maximum of four cricketers before the auctions. Out of this, only a maximum of two foreigners can be retained. The end of November is the deadline for the teams to announce their final list.
It will be an interesting event because teams will have to consider the draft, in which two new teams will pick their players. Hence, the possibility of buying back the crucial released cricketers is very less.
Shreyas Iyer might not be retained by Delhi Capitals
In R Ashwin‘s latest video on YouTube, he discussed the mega-auction retentions for each franchise. When the topic came about Delhi Capitals, the Indian spinner confirmed that he may not be retained. As per the discussion, Rishabh Pant and Prithvi Shaw seemed to be certain of being retained. However, Ashwin said that he does not think that Shreyas Iyer will not be retained.
There have been a few reports that Iyer wants a captaincy assignment and, hence, wants to leave DC. With Pant in the team, Iyer may not get that chance. R Ashwin, who has played for the franchise for two years now, also thinks that Iyer might leave the unit.
Meanwhile, both R Ashwin and Shreyas Iyer will be part of the Indian squad for the Test series against New Zealand. A few reports suggest that Iyer could also make his debut.
