The Indian off-spinner Harbhajan Singh has posted a cheeky tweet after the fast bowler Deepak Chahar got a 1 lakh INR cash award for his stare at Martin Guptill in the first T20 international between India and New Zealand in Jaipur.
This has been the first award of its kind where, rather than rewarding the player for his cricketing skills, the award is more focused on rewarding the cricketer for creating a moment that might enhance the entertainment value of the game.
Harbhajan Singh was also someone who was very passionate in his celebrations when he used to play international cricket for India and he suggested on Twitter yesterday if these kind of “moment of the match” awards were there when he was playing, he might have become a billionaire just by collecting all the prize money.
Harbhajan Singh might announce his retirement as a player soon
Although Harbhajan Singh has not announced his retirement yet and he was still a part of the KKR squad last IPL season, he had stressed the point that he was not sure how long he could be playing. So, one can expect that he might not continue playing for a long time.
But, the veteran off-spinner was surely an entertainer for whatever time he spent on the field, be it in IPL or international cricket and he surely was involved in a number of celebrations which could have been judged “moment of the match” if this award was there in his time.

Harbhajan is a commentator these days and works with the Hindi commentary team of Star Sports, but while speaking to the broadcasters during an interview in the IPL, he had said that he would be open to a role in coaching as well if there was an opportunity at any stage.
The 41-year old is India’s second highest wicket-taker in test match cricket as far as spin bowling is concerned, with Ravi Ashwin getting very close to his record now.
