Ruturaj Gaikwad becomes the 5th Indian to win Orange Cap
Ruturaj Gaikwad has been in superb form this season. The Maharashtra cricketer was coming off a poor domestic season and actually struggled in the initial games. However, CSK backed him and over the course of the season, he accumulated more runs than any other batsman. Ruturaj also made his debut for Team India after the first phase of IPL 2021.
It was not until Faf du Plessis got out in the last over that Ruturaj Gaikwad had the Orange Cap reserved in his name. The South African fell just two runs short of Rutu’s 635 runs. Gaikwad also became the fifth Indian to achieve the feat. Previously, the likes of Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, Robin Uthappa and KL Rahul had won the Orange Cap.
Meanwhile, CSK is on a roll in the final of IPL 2021. Put in to bat first, riding on a big score by Faf and solid contributions by Gaikwad, Robin Uthappa and Moeen Ali, the team managed to put 192 runs on the board. It will be a tough target to chase for KKR. The likes of Eoin Morgan must step up if they are to do it.
