Explained: Why The Two Games Will Be Played At The Same Time On The Final Day Of The League Stage In IPL 2021

IPL defies history to introduce new norm

IPL 2021: For the first time in the glittering history of IPL, in a norm-defying moment, there will be two games happening at the exact time on the final day of the tournament.

After the resumption of the contest, the table has turned upside down, with Kolkata Knight Riders pumping four rippling displays to move to the top half of the table from rock bottom. Contrary to KKR’s performance, Mumbai slumped to consecutive defeats that consigned them to the bottom four of the table, even though momentarily with an action-packed contest coming up for the next few days.

The new event that changed the course of history in IPL 2021

Ideally, IPL’s double-headers are slated to have one game begin at 3:30 while the other follows at 7:30. However, this time with the table crunched to the neck, the governing body has decided to tweak the regulations and play the final day double-header concurrently.

It means that two games on the final day will be played at the same time, with Sunrisers Hyderabad versus Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore versus Delhi Capitals starting at the exact same time of 7:30.

As soon as this historic tweak in the schedule was declared, a lot of speculations started building and people were highly inquisitive of the fact that why would the apex body of cricket in India resort to such a decision?

The probable reason for the governing body to take such a decision

Going by the nature of the move, it is believed that IPL took motivation from the ace football leagues across the globe that features the likes of Premier League and La Liga wherein to avert any kind of unfair advantage to the teams who play last, many matches happen simultaneously at the same time.

Though it is not official, the most viable explanation that one can come up with for a move that defied history can only come about amplifying the excitement and the craze on the final day affair.

Also, going by the reports of Indian Express, it is stated that the TRP for the afternoon games has been pretty less and hence, it was also requested by Star India to BCCI to make a necessary change for the same.
