Team India pulled off a stunning win at the Oval to take a lead in the series. While it looked difficult for India to clinch a victory on Day 5, especially after the way the English openers started, the bowlers scripted a remarkable defence to bowl England out for just 210 runs. In the process, India won the 4th Test by 157 runs. AB de Villiers reacted to the team selection opinions on Day 1 after India’s win at the Oval.

India take a lead in the series

Although India had set a stiff target for England to chase, the solid start that the hosts had meant that India’s win was slowly going out of the equation. Moreover, the flat deck on offer did not encourage the Indian bowlers. However, Virat Kohli and his men stuck to the plan and pulled off a memorable win.

It was Jasprit Bumrah’s impeccable spell of six overs that turned the game towards India. This spell helped India take the wickets of Ollie Pope and Jonny Bairstow. Ravindra Jadeja contributed by bowling consistently on the rough. Umesh Yadav also chipped in with a few wickets.

ABD reacts to India’s win at the Oval

On Day 1, the majority of the conversations were about India’s decision to leave out R Ashwin, especially after losing the Leeds Test. A few even pointed out that this could eventually haunt India as the game progresses. India’s average start with the bat added more fuel to these conversations. AB de Villiers talked about this and called for fans to enjoy the game on display.

The South African legend admitted that the ‘spectators’ had to enjoy the game more, especially after the effort put in by each individual on the field. He congratulated both Virat Kohli and Joe Root and also expressed his excitement for the final Test. The last game of the tour will start on September 10th in Manchester.
