Reports: Shubman Gill Likely To Be Ruled Out For First Test Against England

In what will be a big blow for Team India, young opener Shubman Gill is likely to be ruled out for the first test against England. It is said that Gill has an internal injury, and the same has aggravated recently. Gill has been opening for India since the tour of Australia at the end of last year.

Gill has shown promise till now

Although he is only a few matches into his Test career, Shubman Gill has already shown promise. He looked comfortable against the Aussie pacers in Australia. His knock was important for India to pull off the famous win at the Gabba.

In the World Test Championship final, too, Gill played well despite it being his first Test match in the English conditions. While he scored 28 runs in the first innings, he managed eight runs in the second. India eventually lost the final to New Zealand.

Gill has been carrying the injury for some time

As per the report in Cricbuzz, Gill has been carrying a serious internal injury for some time. Though the exact nature is unknown, it is said that the injury is such that it will keep him ruled out for a long time.

However, Gill will remain along with the Indian Team for the moment. Gill is likely to be ruled out for the first test against England, but there are chances that he might return for the later games. India takes on England at Trent Bridge on August 4th, and the series will continue until September 14th. The teams will be involved in a five-game tournament.

KL Rahul or Mayank Agarwal likely to replace Gill

Although Team India will miss Gill, there will not be too many concerns regarding his unavailability. Either KL Rahul or Mayank Agarwal is likely to take Gill’s place alongside Rohit Sharma for the initial games.

Meanwhile, the team is currently on a break and the players will return to the pre-series camp after which a few intra-squad games are likely to follow. India will be raring to clinch the series after the disappointing loss in the WTC final.
