12 West Indies Born Players Who Have Represented USA In the International Cricket

In recent days, the USA has been trying to set up a good cricket team. With tournaments like Major League Cricket, this initiative is taking giant strides. Many West Indian players, considering their affinity with cricket and owing to a less competitive route to represent a nation, have chosen to don the USA colours. In this article, we take a look at 12 West Indian born players who have represented the USA

1) Rohan Alexander – Jamaica

A Jamaican born cricketer, Rohan Alexander was a left-handed batsman who could also bowl a few overs of off-spin. The player participated in 2 ODI’s for the USA cricket team in the 2004 ICC Champions Trophy. He scored a total of 34 runs in the two games that he played.

2) Howard Johnson – Jamaica

Similar to Rohan, Howard also was part of the USA team that played the 2004 ICC Champions Trophy. Howard, though, was a right-arm pacer. Having played two ODI games, he could manage to pick just one wicket.

3) Mark Johnson – Jamaica

Mark Johnson was also part of that Champions Trophy stint by the USA. He was a wicket-keeper batsman and could score only 20 runs in the two games that he played.

4) Clayton Lambert – Guyana

A batsman, Clayton Lambert first played for West Indies before returning to international cricket to play for the USA at the age of 42. The cricketer also has the distinction of playing a Test match for West Indies.

5) Richard Staple – Jamaica

Richard Staple was a Jamaican-born cricketer who was the captain of the squad that represented in the 2004 Champions Trophy. He took two wickets in two games in that competition.

6) Elmore Hutchinson – Jamaica

Elmore Hutchinson is one of the very few players who have played both ODI and T20I cricket for the USA, so far. A right-handed batsman, he was one of the experienced players for the team in the last few years.

7) Tony Reid – Barbados

Tony Reid was an exciting bowler based out of Barbados. He was regarded as one of the best players for the USA in the Champions Trophy. However, he had a forgettable outing as he just took one wicket in two games.

8) Xavier Marshall – Jamaica

Xavier Marshall is one of the famous West Indian players who have represented the USA. He was part of the West Indian cricket team that took part in the 2006 U19 World Cup. As a senior player for West Indies, he is famously remembered for striking 12 sixes in a single ODI game in the match against Canada. Since 2019, he has been part of the USA cricket team.

9) Hayden Walsh Jr. – Antigua

The leg-spinner is one of the popular players who have represented the USA so far. After playing one ODI for the USA cricket team, Walsh made the switch to West Indies. This happened after a fine display in the Caribbean Premier League.

10) Steve Massiah – Guyana

When the USA cricket team famously took part in the Champions Trophy in 2004, Steve Massiah was the premier batsman in the unit. Later, in the eligibility games for the ICC event, he captained the team. He, too, like the players who belonged to that batch, played only two ODI games in his career.

11) Donovan Blake – Jamaica

After participating in plenty of unrecognized ODI games, Blake could just play a single ODI for the USA. That was against Australia, in which, they ended on the losing side.

Timroy Allen is one cricketer who has contributed equally in both departments of the game for the USA. He was part of the Jamaica franchise in CPL and that was a homecoming of sorts for the cricketer. He played six games for the team in his first CPL season.
