Usually, a capped Indian is rated highly in the Indian Premier League. However, in recent years, the trend has changed. It is down to what the team needs and at times, an uncapped cricketer could be providing that. Hence, a few capped Indians might stay on the bench. On that note, in this article, we take a look at the list of eight capped Indians who are yet to play in IPL 2024.
1) Amit Mishra
Amit Mishra was a surprise package last season. However, with the arrival of M Siddharth, Amit is not getting frequent opportunities. In fact, he is yet to play in the ongoing edition. The changed nature of the track at EKANA is also a reason for the same.
2) K Gowtham
K Gowtham is one of the capped Indians who are yet to play in IPL 2024. Amit Mishra’s case repeats here, as well. Right-arm off-spinners are not being used that much in the ongoing campaign. Anyways, Deepak Hooda is available if LSG needs an option. Therefore, there is no chance for K Gowtham, who had made his India debut against Sri Lanka.
3) Rishi Dhawan
Punjab Kings now has an extra Indian seamer in the form of Harshal Patel. Hence, they can afford to have Kagiso Rabada bowl with the new ball. Therefore, Rishi Dhawan, who opened the bowling last season, is yet to play in the ongoing campaign.
4) KS Bharat
KS Bharat is also one of the capped Indians who are yet to play in IPL 2024. Phil Salt has been excellent for KKR in IPL 2024. Hence, it is obvious that KS Bharat has to spend time on the bench. Unless there is a fitness issue, he will not get a chance in the playing XI.
5) Manish Pandey
Manish Pandey was anyways a backup signing for KKR. However, with the likes of Shreyas Iyer, Venkatesh Iyer and Rinku Singh performing well, Manish is obviously out of the equation. Nitish Rana is also not playing because of an injury problem.
6) Chetan Sakariya
Chetan Sakariya is also one of the capped Indians who are yet to play in IPL 2024. Harshit Rana and Vaibhav Arora have done well as the Indian pacers in KKR. Hence, Sakariya is yet to get a game. However, he still has a chance to be a part of a few matches.
7) Jayant Yadav
Jayant Yadav was used mainly by his IPL franchises as a matchup option. At GT, with Rashid Khan, Noor Ahmed and R Sai Kishore dominating in the spin department, Jayant has had to spend time on the bench. He is unlikely to get a game in the remaining matches, as well.
8) Navdeep Saini
Navdeep Saini is also one of the capped Indians who are yet to play in IPL 2024. With the likes of Avesh Khan and Sandeep Sharma doing well, Saini is struggling to get games at RR. Even Kuldeep Sen is doing well and hence, the former RCB cricketer is majorly on the bench.
