7 Players who played for both Mumbai Indians and RCB

Mumbai Indians and RCB are the arch rivals in the Indian Premier League as they are captained by two of the most successful cricketers of modern day cricket – Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.

Whenever these two teams come across each other in the IPL, it’s not just a full house in the stadium, but the TV viewership goes sky-high as well.

There have been a few cricketers over the years who have played for both MI and RCB. Here are 7 of them –

1. Robin Uthappa

Robin Uthappa featured for Mumbai Indians in the inaugural season of the IPL, but was not retained by the franchise any further and he played the next couple of seasons for RCB.

However, in the mega auction ahead of IPL 2011, Uthappa was let go by RCB as well and he was bought by Pune Warriors India.

2. Dinesh Karthik

Dinesh Karthik played a couple of seasons for Mumbai Indians and even won the IPL title with them in 2013, but his tenure at RCB was not very pleasant as he didn’t just fail individually with the bat, but the team couldn’t perform well in the tournament either.

In the solitary season that Karthik played for RCB, he averaged 12 with the bat.

3. Vinay Kumar

Vinay Kumar also won the IPL title with Mumbai Indians, something that eluded him at RCB, but he was individually very successful at RCB.

Vinay, till date, is the second highest wicket-taker ever for RCB as he has grabbed 72 wickets in 64 games at a strike rate of 18.13.

4. Zaheer Khan

Zaheer Khan started his IPL journey with Royal Challengers Bangalore, but his first stint at RCB wasn’t very long as he was let go after just one season. However, RCB secured his services again in 2011 after he played the 2009 and the 2010 season for Mumbai Indians.

5. RP Singh

RP Singh, who played a key role in India’s triumph in the T20 World Cup 2007, was a very effective bowler in the IPL as well for the first couple of years and he even won the IPL title with his first IPL franchise Deccan Chargers in 2009.

However, from there, RP’s performance started fading and he was released by Deccan Chargers.

RP was signed by Mumbai Indians in 2012 and just a year later, he was signed by RCB, but he couldn’t make much of an impact with the ball at either of the two franchises.

6. Manish Pandey

Manish Pandey was also a part of the Mumbai Indians squad in the first season of the IPL, but he was signed by RCB in the next auction. Playing for RCB in IPL 2009, Pandey became the youngest ever player to score a hundred in the IPL.

Pandey now plays for Sunrisers Hyderabad.

7. Yuzvendra Chahal

Yuzvendra Chahal’s talent was first spotted by Mumbai Indians as they signed the leg spinner in 2011. But, Chahal couldn’t get too many playing opportunities for Mumbai during his 3-year stint there.

Chahal, however, found a regular place in RCB’s XI after joining the franchise in 2014. The 30-year old is currently RCB’s highest wicket-taker of all time.

I write a bit on cricket and I am more interested in technical and tactical side of the game, rather than bravado.
