Cody Rhodes made a memorable return to WWE at WrestleMania 38 earlier this year. Three years after joining AEW, Rhodes left the company and returned to his ‘home’ to chase the dream of becoming a world champion. Rhodes could not achieve his dream in 2022 as he suffered a brutal injury.
He had a trilogy with Seth ‘Freakin’ Rollins, where The American Nightmare emerged victorious in all three matches. It looked like fans would get one more match between Rhodes and Rollins because the latter attacked the former in a dangerous way on the RAW after Hell in a Cell.
Rhodes, however, said on his recent RAW appearance that he has moved beyond his previous rivalry. The American Nightmare will return in 2023, and here are possible storylines for him.

As mentioned ahead, Cody is not so much interested in having one more match against Seth Rollins. However, it should not be a surprise if WWE books the fourth match of this feud in 2023. Rollins could attack Rhodes again to restart the feud whenever he returns on RAW.

WWE can also book Cody to return as a surprise entrant in next month’s Royal Rumble match and win it to earn a shot at Roman Reigns’ Undisputed Universal Championship. Rhodes vs. Reigns could be an entertaining feud.
3. Cody Rhodes wins WWE Money in the Bank
The 2023 Money in the Bank ladder matches are scheduled to take place at WrestleMania. In case WWE wants the fans to fully focus on the rumored Roman Reigns vs. The Rock match, they can delay Rhodes vs. Reigns for a while by booking the former to win the Money in the Bank contract.
4. Rhodes forms a new Legacy
A wild storyline idea that has been doing rounds on social media is the return of The Legacy. It also depends on Randy Orton’s fitness. Orton and Rhodes could reunite with Bron Breakker being the 3rd member of the group.
5. Rhodes wins the Elimination Chamber
If Rhodes is not fit to make a return at Royal Rumble, WWE can hold him back until Elimination Chamber and then give him his big push by booking him to win the Chamber match, thereby earning a shot at the world title.
