There are not many countries that play cricket on a regular basis. The United States of America was reinstated as an associate member in 2019. Even as compared to other associate members, the USA doesn’t compare too well. With there being talks about increasing the status of associate members, we could see some changes in the status quo. While that’s still a pipe dream, USA have had many talented cricketers in their national team. Today we will take a look at 5 American cricket players with most ODI runs for USA.
#1. Aaron Jones
Aaron Jones is a right-handed top-order batsman and a part-time leg-spin bowler. Jones plays for Barbados and Combined Campuses and Colleges in West Indian domestic cricket. He tops this list with 416 runs in ODIs. He scored these runs from 13 innings. These runs include 3 half-centuries and an average of 34.66.
Jones debuted in 2018 in the 2018 ICC World Cricket League Division Three tournament in Oman. Jones was the leading run-scorer in the tournament. So there is a lot of time for him to go from strength to strength in the future.
#2. Monank Patel
Monank Patel is a wicket-keeper batsman playing for USA. Patel is the record holder for the second-most ODI runs for USA. Patel has scored 287 runs from 13 innings. His highest score is 82. Patel scored these runs at an average of 23.91. These runs include two half-centuries and a strike rate of 65.37.
Patel was named as the player to watch in the United States’ squad. So it is safe to say that he is living up to the expectations, being the second-highest ODI run-scorer for USA.
#3. Ian Holland
Ian Holland plays for USA’s national side, and for Hampshire County Cricket Club in England. He is an all-rounder for the team. Holland is a right-handed batsman and a right-arm medium-pacer. He has scored 244 runs from 8 innings. He has played only 8 innings, and thus can very well increase his rankings in the coming future.
Holland scored these runs at an average of 30.50. He also scored two half-centuries. In addition to playing for USA, and county cricket in England, Holland has also played domestic cricket in Australia.
#4. Xavier Marshall
Xavier Marshall is one of the most experienced cricketers in USA. The 35-year old made his debut for West Indies in 2005. His century in the U-19 World Cup helped the team get into the semifinals. So to say that his stock was high would be an understatement.
Marshall moved to the United States of America and was named in their squad for the 2017–18 Regional Super50 tournament in West Indies. Marshall ranks fourth in the most ODI runs for USA list with 221 runs. While he has a low average of only 17, Marshall brings a lot of experience to the team.
#5. Steven Taylor
Steven Taylor is a former USA cricketer, and the former captain of the USA cricket team. He was axed from the team as he announced his intentions to play for the West Indies. Taylor finishes off this list with 186 runs from 12 innings. He boasts of a dismal average of 15.50. In his ODI career, he only managed to score a single half-century.
Although he doesn’t have flattering numbers in One Day Internationals, Taylor performed comparatively better in T20Is. We will have to wait and watch him as he makes a shift to the international team of West Indies.
