Team India’s squad for the 2024 T20 World Cup is set to be announced soon. Most likely, the squad will be named by the end of April or at the beginning of May. IPL 2024 has opened up discussions about various spots in the XI. The wicket-keeping slot is one of them. It is sure that the opening slot will not be there for the wicket-keeper. The selected keeper has to play in the middle-order or as a finisher. On that note, here, we take a look at the list of five players who will compete for the wicket-keeper slot in the 2024 T20 WC squad.
1) Rishabh Pant
Rishabh Pant is one of the players who will compete for the wicket-keeper slot in the 2024 T20 WC squad. Some credible reports suggest that Rishabh Pant is in line to make a comeback to the Indian Team. His decent form in the ongoing IPL has strengthened his case.
Pant as a left-hander in the middle-order will be a good choice. While he is good against spinners, it is not sure if he can do well against high-end pace. Nevertheless, the coming days could decide this for the selectors.
2) Jitesh Sharma
In the recent games for India, it has been Jitesh Sharma with the gloves for the team. However, his position is not confirmed at the moment. This has to do with his performance in the ongoing IPL.
Also, Jitesh can be inconsistent at times. He is also someone who does not have a track record of doing well in a good sample size of games. This could not work in his favour.
3) KL Rahul
KL Rahul is also one of the players who will compete for the wicket-keeper slot in the 2024 T20 WC squad. His current performances have not been great but KL Rahul is a class talent and he would never be out of discussion.
KL Rahul can play in the middle-order, like he did in the 2023 ODI World Cup. He is an experienced cricketer and might do well on the slow pitches in West Indies and the USA. Hence, he has a good chance to get selected provided he does well in IPL 2024.
4) Sanju Samson
Sanju Samson at No.3 has been terrific for Rajasthan Royals, so far. It also needs to be noted that he can play at any position in the batting order.
Sanju is someone who is good against both pace and spin. He is also well experienced to walk straightaway into the playing XI. Hence, he is on this list.
5) Ishan Kishan
Ishan Kishan is also one of the players who will compete for the wicket-keeper slot in the 2024 T20 WC squad. The Jharkhand cricketer is currently not part of the BCCI Central Contract list. However, that does not mean that he is out of the equation.
The advantage with Ishan is that he can double up as a backup keeper and a backup opener. Since he is a left-hander, as well, the chances for Ishan to be in the squad will increase. However, for that to happen, he has to deliver a stunning performance in IPL 2024 in the coming days.
